AMD currently dominates much of the desktop CPU segment and frequently appears at the top of lists featuring the best processors for gaming. Popular chips like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D already command premium pricing thanks to their strong performance. A new rumor now suggests these prices could climb even higher.
According to a report from Overclock3D, industry sources claim AMD has already increased the cost of its Ryzen processors for suppliers. The changes allegedly went into effect on December 1, 2025, though the exact region or time zone wasn’t specified.
Because the adjustments were made at a supplier level, retailers haven’t immediately reflected the increase, meaning some processors—including the 9800X3D—are still listed near their lowest prices online. However, if suppliers are indeed paying more, those costs may eventually be passed on to shoppers.

The report also suggests that retailers might use the post–Black Friday period to present any new price adjustments as a “return to normal” after holiday sales.
